"In de Verenigde Staten is de Katholieke Kerk op het moment miljoenen dollars schadeloosstelling aan het betalen omdat priesters zich schuldig hebben gemaakt aan seksueel misbruik van kinderen. ... Een dergelijk kwaaddoen kan niet door Gods dienstknechten genegeerd worden maar moet in het belang van anderen aan de kaak gesteld worden."De zelfkritische vragen waarvoor we ons in dit verband gesteld zien, zijn: Wanneer een dergelijk kwaaddoen in onze eigen organisatie aan het licht gebracht wordt, mogen we dat onrecht dan ook "in het belang van anderen (vooral onze kinderen) aan de kaak stellen"? Hebben we ook begrip voor onze broeders en zusters die onze organisatie de rug toekeren doordat onze herders op onbevredigende wijze gevallen van seksueel kindermisbruik afgehandeld hebben? Zoals blijkt uit de gedetailleerde journalistieke onderzoeken van de media in diverse landen, en ook uit de berichtgeving van de belangenorganisatie van de Silentlambs – een organisatie die opkomt voor honderden seksueel misbruikte JG-kinderen - heeft niet alleen de Rooms Katholieke Kerk in de VS, maar ook de Wachttorenorganisatie een wereldwijd misbruikschandaal in haar gelederen. Hoewel onze organisatie er alles aan doet om de aard en omvang van dit schandaal te bagatelliseren, kan elke getuige van Jehovah die de moed heeft om in de doofpot en onder het vloerkleed te kijken, het bestaan van dat schandaal vaststellen.
"De geestelijkheid heeft God ook verloochend door zich niet aan zijn morele maatstaven te houden — zoals bijvoorbeeld blijkt uit een gestage stroom van processen tegen pedofiele priesters. De situatie van de christenheid lijkt op die van Israël en Juda in de oudheid. „Het land is met bloedvergieten vervuld en de stad is vol verkeerdheid”, werd de profeet Ezechiël verteld, „want zij hebben gezegd: ’Jehovah heeft het land verlaten, en Jehovah ziet het niet’” (Ezechiël 9:9; vergelijk Jesaja 29:15). Geen wonder dat velen de kerken van de christenheid volledig de rug hebben toegekeerd! Maar moeten zij het geloof in God de rug toekeren?"
Negen misbruikzaken (inzake 16 slachtoffers) door het WTG afgekocht. Slachtoffers moeten zwijgen:
1) Advocaat Mario Moreno, werkzaam op het Hoofdbureau van JG, heeft voor de media bevestigd dat negen zaken aangaande 16 eisers buitengerechtelijk geschikt zijn. Toen hem gevraagd werd welke bedragen hiermee gemoeid zijn, antwoordde hij: "I’m not able to comment on any of the specifics", het was "a confidentiality agreement."
2) Kimberlee D. Norris, advocate van bovenbedoelde 16 slachtoffers, gaf het volgende commentaar op dit soort overeengekomen schikkingen: "We don't pursue cases wherein we cannot prevail; not good for client, and not good business. In general, I can't spend what it takes to pursue abuse cases without significant return."

Last week, it was reported by The Associated Press that a settlement was reached with alleged sexual abuse victims from within the Jehovah’s Witnesses church.
Reportedly, 16 alleged victims have been compensated by the church, headquartered in Brooklyn, N.Y. The settlement has not been disclosed, and the alleged victims have been gagged in an effort of “damage control.” However, beginning several years ago, this problem of pedophilia within the religion began to gather attention, when a prominent elder in Kentucky, Bill Bowen, resigned as an elder within the religion over such alleged coverups. He was excomunicated from the church for his efforts to change the policies that lead to the church being a breeding ground for such actions.
The problem stems from the groups’ use of archaic Hebrew law to require that anyone claiming to be molested sexually must provide two or three witnesses to the crime in order for the elders in charge to take any action. Hence, pedophiles, who work their evil without two witnesses (which I would assume is always), cannot be charged and excomunicated from the religion. Further, the Watchtower society has allegedly instructed elders to contact the authorities only in the few states that require such reporting. Families have allegedly been instructed to keep such matters out of the public eye, so as not to bring “reproach on Jehovah,” the Hebrew God the religion worships. Additionally, no one in the congregation, outside of the elders involved, is ever informed of the matter in such cases, leaving the children exposed to danger. In some cases, those alleged victims have been victimized a second time, to silence them, by excomunication as slanderers for trying to warn others in the congregations of the dangers, or just expressing their pain to others.
Bill Bowen has formed a victims support group called Silent Lambs, and since its inception just a few years back, this group has been contacted by over 7,000 alleged victims. Experts are assessing that the problem, per capita, may be far larger than that of the Catholic Church, due to the insignificant size of this sect. But the pain they are causing by allegedly allowing these monsters to co-exist within the same congregations with many little children who are unaware, and knocking on the community doors of our homes, is unpardonable.
Please protect yourself and your children. Get informed. Just search the Internet for SilentLambs and get the facts. Or search the Internet for Jehovah’s Witnesses and sexual abuse. An educated public is our only protection against policies that hide pedophiles within the walls of churches.
High on the list of reasons I left the religion myself after nearly 40 years was my awareness of this horrible allowance within the walls of the Kingdom Hall. I was, and am, personally ostracized within that group for leaving. For the record, I was never sexually abused, but I knew of some alleged cases within the religion. I speak out in love for the unknowing children who may become the next victims of such isolationist religious groups.

According to The Associated Press story, the Jehovah's Witnesses, whose headquarters are in Brooklyn, N.Y., said that they were pleased to see the lawsuits resolved, declining further comment. “Our loving heavenly Father makes it clear in his Word, the Bible, that he abhors child abuse,” a statement from the denomination said. “As an organization, we will continually strive to educate families and congregations with sound Scriptural teachings that they can use to protect their children from child molesters. And we will continue to do our utmost to protect children from this horrible crime and sin.”
